HEIC to JPG
Higher keeps more detail and makes a larger file. 90 suits most photos.
JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas are filled with this colour.
Your images are never uploaded. Every file is decoded and saved inside this tab; nothing is sent, stored or shared. Free, unlimited, no signup, no watermark.

Convert HEIC to JPG in your browser
HEIC is the format iPhones have used for camera photos since iOS 11 in 2017, and many recent Samsung phones can save it too. It stores a photo in roughly half the space of a JPG, which is why the phone prefers it. The trouble starts when the photo leaves the phone: Chrome, Firefox and Edge cannot display a HEIC file, Windows needs extra extensions to open one, and most upload forms reject it outright.
Drop your HEIC photos above and each one comes back as a JPG, the format everything accepts. Safari can read HEIC on its own. In other browsers this page fetches a HEIC decoder the first time you add one, a single 3.2 MB download that is then reused for the rest of the batch. Either way the photo is decoded and saved by your own browser, so it is never uploaded.

Why convert HEIC to JPG
- An upload form, job portal or government site says the file type is not supported. Almost all of them take JPG.
- You copied photos from an iPhone to a Windows PC and they will not open, or open only as blank thumbnails.
- You are sending pictures to someone on Android or an older computer and want them to open without any extra software.
- A photo printing service, a website builder or an older editor asks for JPG or PNG only.
HEIC to JPG: quality and file size
Both formats are lossy, so the JPG is a second round of compression on a photo that was already compressed once. At the default quality of 90 the difference is very hard to see in a normal photo. Lower the slider when you want a smaller file, or push it to 100 when the JPG is going to be edited again.
Expect the JPG to be larger than the HEIC, because JPG is the older and less efficient format. That is the price of a file that opens everywhere. The pixel dimensions stay the same. The JPG is a standard 8 bit picture and it is written without the EXIF data, so the capture date, camera model and GPS location are not inside the new file.
What happens to transparency from HEIC to JPG
Photos from a phone camera have no transparent areas, so for nearly every HEIC this setting never comes into play. JPG has no transparency at all, so see-through pixels need a fill. The rare HEIC that does have them, a cut-out saved by an editing app for example, gets those areas filled with the background colour you choose under the tool, white by default.
HEIC to JPG batch limits and very large images
You can add up to 50 files at a time, each up to 50 MB, and they are converted one after another so a long batch does not exhaust the tab. A Live Photo is a still plus a separate video, and the HEIC is only the still. A HEIC that holds several pictures gives you one of them, the picture the file marks as its main image. On a computer a 48 megapixel photo is kept at its full size. Browsers on iPhone and iPad cap a canvas at about 16.7 megapixels, so there a larger photo is reduced to fit and its row states the new size.
Your images stay on your device
Camera photos are some of the most personal files people own, and they usually carry the place and time they were taken. Nothing you drop here is sent to a server: decoding and saving both happen in this tab, and the page keeps working with the network switched off once the decoder has loaded.
HEIC to JPG questions
- How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?
- Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, drop the HEIC files on the panel and download the JPGs. Windows browsers cannot read HEIC themselves, so the page loads a decoder the first time (3.2 MB, once) and then converts every photo on your own PC. You do not need the HEIF or HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store.
- Are my HEIC photos uploaded when I convert them?
- No. The photo is decoded and re-saved by your browser, on your device. No request carries the picture anywhere, so there is no copy on a server to store, leak or delete. The only download is the decoder itself, which is program code and not your photo.
- Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
- A little, in principle, because JPG compresses the picture again. At the default quality of 90 it is hard to spot in an ordinary photo. Set the slider to 100 for the closest copy, at the cost of a bigger file, and keep the original HEIC if you may need to edit the photo later.
- Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC?
- HEIC uses a newer compression method that needs roughly half the bytes of JPG for the same picture. Going back to JPG gives that saving up. If the size matters more than the last bit of detail, lower the quality slider and watch the size in the row.
- How many HEIC files can I convert at once?
- Up to 50 files per batch, each up to 50 MB. They are converted one at a time and each gets its own download button, with Download all for the whole set. For more than that, clear the list and add the next batch. There is no daily limit.
- Is the location data kept in the JPG?
- No. The JPG is written fresh from the pixels, without the EXIF block, so the GPS position, the capture time and the camera model are not in it. That is useful when you are sending a photo to a stranger, and worth knowing if you rely on the date taken to sort your library.
- Can I convert HEIC to JPG on the iPhone itself?
- Yes, the page works in Safari on iPhone and iPad, which reads HEIC without the extra decoder. Photos above about 16.7 megapixels are reduced there, because that is the largest canvas the browser allows, and the row tells you when it happened. On a computer the full size is kept.
