WebP to JPG Converter

Turn WebP images saved from the web into JPG files every app and upload form accepts. Free, no signup, and nothing is uploaded: files never leave your device.

WebP to JPG

JPG quality90

Higher keeps more detail and makes a larger file. 90 suits most photos.

#ffffff

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas are filled with this colour.

Your images are never uploaded. Every file is decoded and saved inside this tab; nothing is sent, stored or shared. Free, unlimited, no signup, no watermark.

Convert WebP to JPG in your browser

A WebP file is what you usually get when you save a photo from a modern website. The format is efficient and every current browser shows it, but it was designed for web pages, and a lot of everyday software never caught up with it. Email clients, older photo viewers, TV and photo-frame apps, and many upload forms still expect a JPG.

This page turns WebP into JPG, the most widely accepted picture format there is. Drop the files above, adjust the quality if you care about size, and download the results. The WebP is decoded and the JPG encoded by your own browser, so the images are never uploaded.

Free, unlimited, no signup, no watermark.

Why convert WebP to JPG

  • A form accepts JPG or JPEG only and rejects the .webp you saved.
  • You want to attach or share a photo with someone whose phone, TV or viewer does not show WebP.
  • An online marketplace, a listing site or a print shop asks for JPG product photos.
  • You want a small file and the image is a photograph with no transparent areas, which is exactly what JPG is good at.

WebP to JPG: quality and file size

Most WebP photos are lossy, and JPG is lossy too, so converting compresses the picture a second time. At the default quality of 90 the result is visually very close to the WebP. The slider under the tool runs from 40 to 100: lower numbers give smaller files with more visible blockiness, higher numbers stay closer to the source.

Do not expect the JPG to be smaller than the WebP at the same visual quality. WebP is the more efficient of the two, so a JPG that looks the same usually needs more bytes. Flat graphics with sharp edges and text, such as screenshots and logos, show JPG ringing around the edges; for those, WebP to PNG keeps the edges clean.

What happens to transparency from WebP to JPG

JPG cannot store transparency. Any transparent pixels in the WebP are filled with a solid colour before saving: white unless you pick another one with the background control. Pick the colour of the page the image will sit on and a cut-out still looks right. If you need the background to stay see-through, convert to PNG instead.

WebP to JPG batch limits and very large images

A batch holds up to 50 files of up to 50 MB each, converted one at a time. JPG has no animation, so an animated WebP gives you its first frame and the row notes that the animation was not kept. Full size is preserved up to 16,384 pixels a side where the browser allows it. On iPhone and iPad the ceiling is about 16.7 megapixels, and an image above it is reduced with the new size shown in its row.

Your images stay on your device

The conversion uses the WebP decoder and the JPG encoder built into your browser. Neither the file you drop nor the file you download passes through a server, and the JPG is written without metadata of its own.

WebP to JPG questions

How do I change a WebP to a JPG?
Drop the WebP on the panel at the top of this page, or click it to choose files. The JPG appears in the list in a moment with its size and dimensions, and the Download button saves it. Renaming the extension does not work, because the bytes inside would still be WebP.
What happens to a transparent WebP when it becomes a JPG?
The transparent areas are filled with the background colour, white by default. JPG has no alpha channel, so there is no way to keep them see-through. Change the colour under the tool to match where the picture will be used, or use the PNG page to keep the transparency.
Which JPG quality should I choose?
Leave it at 90 for a copy that looks like the original. Go down to 70 or 80 for web use and email, where the saving in bytes is worth more than detail nobody will zoom into. Use 100 only when the JPG will be edited and saved again.
Will the JPG be smaller than the WebP?
Usually not at the same visual quality, because WebP compresses better than JPG. You can make the JPG smaller by lowering the quality slider, at the cost of visible artefacts. The row shows the size before and after so you can judge the trade.
Does the converter upload my images?
No. Everything runs in the page you have open. The picture stays on your device from the moment you drop it to the moment you save the JPG, which is also why there is no queue and no wait for a server.
Can it convert many WebP files to JPG together?
Yes, up to 50 files at a time and 50 MB per file. The same quality and background colour apply to the whole batch, and changing either one re-converts every file with the new setting. Two files with the same name get a number added so one never overwrites the other.
My WebP is animated. Do I get an animated file back?
No. JPG is a still format, so the first frame is converted and the row says that the animation was not kept.
